CELEBRATING OUR CENTENNIAL
I feel compelled to share with you something that has nothing to do with Lent or Easter, at least I don’t think it does. A hundred years ago, April 10, 1915, St. Luke’s was formally organized as a Mission Church, which, of course, tells you that we have a Centennial coming up. Over a year ago we put together a committee to make plans for this occasion and after many months of exploring the options, we feel that we have what we want in place. The date for the event is June 5-7, which would allow any St. Luke’s alumni to have a better date for attending. It also avoids the weather extremes (although you never know about Oklahoma). This three-day event will include a gathering at East Central University on Friday evening as a kind of “meet and greet,” a Saturday event out at Sheep Creek from noon to 4pm, and lastly, a Sunday Eucharist with a catered dinner to follow.

We will also have a time capsule mounted inside the great altar to be preserved for the ones who will celebrate the parish bicentennial in 2115. How I wish that the fledgling group of Episcopalians who first met on the 10th of April had kept a capsule for us!

We are also in the process of creating a video with background hymns sung by our very own choir. It’s taken some research to get as many email addresses of previous members as I can, and that will be our primary way of extending invitations. If you have any more email addresses that we might need, please give them to me, as our first wave of invitations will go out this week.

“Become A Part Of Our History” is the focus of this event, which is an invitation extended not only to members and past-members, but a call to include those who will “carry the torch”, so to speak, as we continue to minister in Christ’s Name for another hundred years. With everything that we’re doing I would invite you to invite as many non-members as you can. Let them see where we’ve been, who we are, and where our Lord is leading us. You just never know what that might mean to them. So save this date, and save it for others as well. Attend everything. Have fun. I know I intend to.

                                                                                   Faithfully,

                                                                                       FJ+
